Innovative Sea Container Loading Technology

June 27, 2005

Loading time reduced to 15 minutes from 4 hours China receives first shipments from LA/Long Beach ports

FONTANA, CA, JUNE 27 – Advanced Steel Recovery, Inc., a ferrous metal recycling company, today announced the immediate commencement of scrap metal shipments overseas using an innovative sea-container loading technology that dramatically reduces container-loading time to 15 minutes from 4 hours.

Using Frankel Advanced Shipping Technologies (FASTek), sea-containers bound for steel mills in China and other Asian nations began loading containers with scrap metal. Compared to traditional loading, FASTek’s efficiencies are dramatic.

FASTek Vs Traditional Loading
15 minutes total loading time 4 hours total loading time

No manual labor inside container Workers loading inside unventilated container
No damage to container Impairs container structure

"FASTek’s revolutionary loading method delivers raw materials – swiftly, inexpensively, and safely to overseas markets by eliminating the bottleneck at the port via traditional break-bulk loading. FASTek also levels the playing field for scrap shippers who can now reach a wide spectrum of mills that are currently locked out of the supply chain by exclusive cargo ship deals that feed only the largest mills," stated Nathan Frankel, President of Advanced Steel Recovery, Inc.

FASTek uses the surplus of sea-containers that enter US shores with imported goods but return empty as a result of the widening US-China trade deficit. Sea-container shipping companies backhauling scrap will now benefit from a reduction in financial exposure caused by empty container shipments and/or damage caused by traditional loading.

Both scrap industry and shipping veterans view sea-container loading as a mainstream vehicle for the export of raw materials as trade deficits continue to widen and the demand from emerging nations continues to rise.

"Through FASTek, I can book enough scrap from one US processor in a fraction of the time by loading hundreds of empty sea-containers from a single source rather than simultaneously loading scrap into containers from multiple sources," says Roman Cheng of RJ Metals, Importer of ferrous scrap to Asia.

Frankel, a third generation scrap processor is changing the face of the antiquated scrap metal industry. Through innovations such as FASTek, he is proving that scrap metal can leverage technology and satisfy the demands of global markets by connecting nations with the efficiencies and accessibility that is necessary in our high-speed world. In addition to FASTek, Frankel’s Internet-based customer inventory and tracking system is the industry leader in bringing transparency to pricing and shipping.
