December 13, 2004
Advanced Steel Recovery, Inc. (ASR), Southern California’s fastest growing ferrous scrap metal processor and Harris Press and Shear (Harris), a worldwide leader in the design, manufacturing and sale of scrap processing equipment are pleased to announce the successful installation of Harris’ GS-11-E-5, 1100 ton Shear/Baler/Logger at ASR’s 6-acre scrap processing plant in Fontana, CA,
making ASR the most technologically advanced and one of the highest capacity facilities in the region.
"ASR made the commitment to overhaul the way scrap processing was handled and perceived by leading the competition in pricing, service, reliability and integrity," said Nathan Frankel, President and Founder of ASR. "By installing Harris’ GS-11, we are able to offer steel mills the best and most diverse product which in-turn allows us to ensure our clients the most competitive pricing structure and service efficiency. Frankel continued to say, “The scrap market has seen an unprecedented upswing in the last 18 months and we believe that ferrous scrap is a commodity that needs to be treated as seriously as all globally traded commodities. The installation of the Harris GS-11 will allow ASR to meet the ever-changing demands of the global steel industry".
"We are pleased to have been a part of ASR's commitment to growth” said Edd Berkoben, President of Harris. “Harris has had a solid partnership history with the Frankel family since 1974 when Nathan’s father Leo Frankel used our equipment at his facility, then called Frankel Iron & Metal CO (FIMCO). After the sale of FIMCO in 1999, Nathan started ASR with a commitment to innovating and modernizing the scrap metal industry. Approximately 2 ½ years ago, ASR installed a Harris H556DT Shear/Baler/Logger, since that time Nathan has achieved unprecedented growth in the region as evidenced by his investment in upgrading to a Harris high production GS-11 Shear/Baler/Logger. Keeping their operations equipped with the most modern, robust and reliable machinery to date confirms their commitment both to growth and to their clients and Harris is pleased to have been an integral part of their success."
